Some information you may find interesting
Contention ratio is the mathematical
'worst case' ratio that dictates how much bandwidth or speed is
shared between customers using the BT network. 'In reality',
because of the size and efficiency of the BT network it is very
unlikely that 50 or 20 users will be online at the same time in
the same part of the network and so most users will experience
fast download speeds. A contention ratio only applies to
broadband bandwidth, the telephone exchange line is never
shared.
Please note that it can take up to seven days for new telephone
numbers to be registered on the availability checker. If you
have had a new phone line installed and are having problems with
our availability checker then please get in touch prior to
placing your broadband order.
